Course Outline
General Information:
Classroom Rules/notes:
This section of Secondary V English is worth three credits. The course focuses on the
following areas:
1. Mapping, researching, presenting, typing, and formatting a 1500 - 2000 word research paper on a topic of your choice
2. Discovering, assessing, and documenting source material
3. Identifying, studying, applying, and discussing key terms/critical concepts
4. Developing speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills
5. Sharpening critical thinking and analysis
Grade Breakdown and Exam Dates:
Speaking Exam (Google Slides Presentation) = 15%
Listening Exam = 20%
Writing Exam (Research Paper) = 35% (submitted via Google Drive)
Reading Exam = 30%
Additional Writing Assignments
Please note: you must
complete these assignments in order to write the exams, and you must type, print, and staple all assignments
Google Drive & Classroom
Every student will be set up with a school Google account. Google Classroom is where you will save and submit all of your work. Gmail is how you will communicate with your teacher outside of class.

- Office hours: Immediately before and after class, or by appointment
Classroom Rules/notes:
- Attendance is mandatory; if you miss too many classes, you may not be allowed to write your exams.
- You must complete in-class assignments, submit them, and then file them in your file folder.
- This section of Secondary V English will require the completion of homework.
- Please bring in a notebook for journalling and assignment purposes.
